Generations

“The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, keeping steadfast love for thousands of generations, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but who will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children and the children’s children, to the third and the fourth generation.” Exodus 34:6-7

Sin is serious. Its effects are often felt for three or four generations. His judgement is often to let the tragic consequences play themselves out.

But his mercy is magnificent. It reaches out widely and urgently through the millennia. His forgiveness and faithfulness continue to find us. Mercy continually triumphs over judgement- because that’s His character.

Sin to the third or fourth.

But mercy on into the thousandth.

The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in love and faithfulness.
