The Process

It begins with some random fishermen being issued with the invite:

“Come and see!”

It seems they like what they’re seeing enough to stick around and become part of the gang. So the heat is turned up a touch:

“Those who’ve got ears, let them hear!”

They tackle the teaching and still remain part of the scene. So turn it up a little more:

“You give them something to eat!”

Propelling them in to the action opens up a real can of worms – identity issues, failure, relational conflict, lack of spiritual power, complete misunderstandings… great! We’re here to get the whole house in order… or maybe pull it down and start from scratch:

“The greatest among you must be a servant”

Ouch – you mean we’re not the hero of this story?!  The temperature continues to rise – he won’t take his hand off the dial. He’ll continue to pummel them with paradigm shifts. Now perhaps it’s time for a little short term foreshadowing:

Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves. Do not take a purse or bag or sandals…”

There’s more lessons along the way, including some repeats, but the process heads relentlessly towards, “As the Father sent me, so I send you…” Or, putting it bluntly:

“Go and die!”

Not some random fishermen anymore.
