It’s harder to handle your heart in a palace than in a prison. Trickier to navigate power well than to walk faithfully through betrayal. Much more difficult to maintain humility as the hot young thing, than to hold on to integrity as the forgotten man. Even more testing to be apologized to, than to take the original hit. Excruciating to be enslaved, but all too easy to turn enslaver – and how was your heart in those two places?
The challenges we’d choose would most likely prove our undoing; those we’d never pick could be the real making of us.
The crucible for silver, and the furnace for gold, and the Lord tests hearts.
Thoughts from the life of Joseph.
